t hat keeps all political material ou t of my phone, prevents me from visiting news websites, etc.

My life would be much better if I just had streaming auto news. This crap is seriously depressing. Now to rewatch Monte Carlo rally.

Something that disables the dreaded top black bar and the sidebar linking other Gawker sites is a start. Lifehacker, Jalopnik, The Inventory would be fine. But sometimes it’s unavoidable, like looking a train wreck.

I mean, you could argue car design is caused by government politics. Fuel economy regulations, safety regulations, and so on affect how cars are designed. And those regulations are inherently political.

I mean, even if I take a break from the internet I’m constantly inundated with streets governed through politics, visit parks managed by government, eat food inspected by government.  How is your original suggestion not undone by your initial statement if that is your logical progression?
